A categorized very strong earthquake was felt in Davao Occidental at 4:48 in the morning on Jan. 9, 2024, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) stated in its earthquake bulletin issued at 6:43 a.m.
The tectonic earthquake had a magnitude of 6.7, occurred 94 kilometers deep, and centered southeast of Balut Island, a municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
Intensities were reportedly felt in Sultan Kudarat and as far as Surigao del Sur. While Phivolcs expected no damage, aftershocks were anticipated. RQJ
