Jade P. Manzano, a young leader representative from the Philippines, has joined the World Youth Forum 2024 Portugal, a monumental global event bringing together global change-makers, activists, and young leaders worldwide in Porto, Portugal, from Dec. 20–23, 2024.
Hosted by the Center for Diplomatic Advancement, a youth organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., that works to promote international peace and diplomatic ties, the World Youth Forum (WYF) 2024 Portugal promises young leaders and people to engage and facilitate a discussion about global issues, develop leadership skills, and foster international collaboration. This global forum is open to students, youth leaders, educators, lawyers, and activists coming from various countries.
In this year’s event, three Filipinos successfully joined the World Youth Forum held in Porto, Portugal.
Meanwhile, in 2022, Jade Manzano joined other Filipino delegates in the International Model United Nations (IMUN) held in Indonesia. Jade, a Taguig City resident and writer of The Philippine Pundit said, “It wasn’t only for the sake of getting the lay of the land in the field of policy-making but also of learning the ropes on pressing global issues and the crucial role of youth in understanding diplomacy,” when asked what promise it brought when he decided to apply and successfully earned his spot to join the WYF 2024.
Jade, 39, is currently working at the House of Representatives of the Philippines as a political affairs officer.
What is the World Youth Forum 2024?
The World Youth Forum 2024 Portugal is an international gathering of young leaders from different countries to speak, discuss, deliberate, and find solutions to urgent global issues together. This global platform allows young leaders to affect both the global and the communities in which they work positively. Portugal, which is famous for its vibrant culture, beautiful scenery, and extensive history, is a host country for the event this year.
Additionally, it allows participants in on the goals that give them the necessary information and skills to lead and change the world. Likewise, it offers the young generation the opportunity to interact with their peers, mentors, and professionals; promotes novel ideas and innovative solutions to urgent worldwide problems; and inspires youth to become more involved in governance and policy-making processes.
Furthermore, the World Youth Forum 2024 Portugal, an international forum that runs from Dec. 20 to 23 this year, will unite students, professionals, activists, and young leaders from across the globe to discuss the challenges facing the world, develop leadership abilities, and foster international cooperation.
Who can join the World Youth Forum, and how is it beneficial?
Young people and leaders who are between 18 and 50 years old and show a strong commitment to activism and community work can join this global youth forum platform. They may also have an interest in international relations, diplomacy, community service, volunteerism, or the teaching profession and can also demonstrate leadership ability and the potential to work effectively with other people in a variety of groups.
Moreover, this global youth forum provides networking opportunities with colleagues around the world. It also provides participants access to speakers and workshops on human rights advocacy, economic development, environmental protection, international diplomacy, and cultural immersion activities in Porto, Portugal.
The World Youth Forum 2024 Portugal offers program categories. Participants can apply for a fully funded seat that is good for only 50 participants, covering airfare, accommodation, conference access, meals during the conference, and merchandise. There are also partially funded seats that are good for only 100 participants, covering only accommodation, conference access, meals during the conference, and merchandise.
Meanwhile, a forum access-only category, for 100 participants is also offered that provides access to the forum only without additional funding; and a self-funded seat for 50 participants that participants cover all expenses independently. ▲
