Tropical storm Maring strengthens as it moves westward to the Babuyan islands, the tropical cyclone bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) posted at 11 A.M. today.
The center of the severe tropical storm Maring was estimated at 240 kilometers (km) east of Aparri, Cagayan. It has sustained winds of 95 km/h near the center with gustiness of up to 115 km/h.
Meanwhile, tropical cyclone signal no. 2 is raised in Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of Isabela (Palanan, Divilacan, Maconacon, Ilagan City, Tumauini, Cabagan, San Pablo, Santa Maria, Santo Tomas, Delfin Albano, Quirino, Gamu, Roxas, Mallig, Quezon), Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
Tropical cyclone signal no. 1 is raised in the rest of Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, the northern portion of Bataan (Samal, Morong, Dinalupihan, Abucay, Orani, Hermosa), the northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta) including Polillo Islands, and Calaguas Islands.
Moderate to heavy rainfall with at times intense rains are most expected over Batanes, Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region.
Meanwhile, monsoon rains influenced by the Southwest Monsoon and most affected by the intensifying tropical storm Maring are possible over Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro in the next 24 hours.
On the PAGASA track forecast, severe tropical storm Maring will move westward over the Luzon Strait tomorrow early morning.
A landfall over mainland northern Cagayan or close over Batanes is still possible. Maring is forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow morning and will continue moving westward over the West Philippine Sea making a possible landfall in Hainan Island on Wednesday morning or afternoon.
